About me

Gill Smit – Professional Counsellor

I have a wealth of life experience that includes raising 3 children to happy adulthood and managing the curved balls that life can throw.

My work in the counselling and medical fields has equipped me with additional years of experience and knowledge. I have witnessed and appreciated the struggles, tenacity and hardships that come with life and health for many, and still do.

I have an Undergraduate degree in Psychology from UCT (University of Cape Town); an Honours Degree in Psychology from UNISA (University of South Africa); a Graduate Diploma in Counselling from SACAP (South African College of Applied Psychology). I am an HPCSA (Health Professionals Council of South Africa) and BHF (Board of Healthcare Funders) registered Radiographer and a Council for Counsellors registered counsellor and have worked as a counsellor and as an Interventional Radiographer for many years.

I have been a counsellor for Hospice; been involved with PACE (Prevent Arrhythmic Cardiac Events) counselling patients and their families to help them cope with the physical, emotional and mental effects of pacemakers and defibrillators; worked with patients in isolation helping them to manage everything about their situation, and providing support to the families and partners who are not always able to visit them.
